Creative Ideas for Decorating with a Sofa Table

A soft table is sometimes also called a console table and it is taller than a coffee table or end tables. It’s usually about the same height as a sofa and it is used behind the sofa and the wall or it can be used behind a sofa that is arranged with its back open to the room. In this way it is often used as a transition to a space or a place to set a lamp and other accessories. There’s nothing wrong with these traditional uses for a sofa table, but there are other decorative possibilities to explore, and they’re not confined to the living room or family room. 1. As an entry table
Just tall enough to be perfectly convenient in an entry, a sofa table offers a place to hold keys, cell phones and mail on top with extra storage below for folded scarves and gloves in baskets or even shoes and slippers. Use it as a busy family organization station by hanging a calendar or memo board above, along with a hat rack wall mirror and key holder. Or make it more of a style statement with a pretty wall mirror, wall sconces, and a tall lamp. 2. As a kitchen helper
Use a sofa table in the kitchen in lieu of an island. Its narrower shape makes it a good choice for a smaller kitchen and it’s just the right height for chopping and mixing in comfort. To make it kitchen-friendly, cover the top in ceramic tile and paint it with washable paint. Store your mixing bowls and cookbooks on the lower shelves and you’ll love the extra space in your busy kitchen. 3. As a bedroom stand-in
Use a sofa table behind a headboard or instead of a headboard for a convenient shelf to hold a lamp, alarm clock, books and so forth. In a small guest room, you can use it instead of a standard dresser that might be too big for the space. A sofa table with drawers and an open shelf below will give your guest a convenient spot to tuck away belongings during their visit. 4. A space for active kids
Paint a sofa table in colorful washable paints, add a couple of barstools and you have a fun work station for kids to color, do homework or work on crafts. The lower shelf can be used to store supplies in bins and baskets. Or for the adult kids in the family, use a sofa table for a workspace in the craft room or sewing room. 5. A buffet for your next party
If your dining room is too small for a standard buffet, use a sofa table instead or press one into use to assist at a party. The drawers offer storage for linen and flatware and can be used after everyone goes home to display your favorite serving pieces, candlesticks and crystal. 6. Laundry room duty
A sofa table is perfectly suited for folding clothes. Cover it with thick towels or a heat resistant pad and use it for ironing. You can also use it as a stand to arrange flowers from the garden and store your favorite vases, flower frogs and snipping shears.
